Okay, so you have the dress, let’s talk about the hair. A bun would look gorgeous on a dress
with detailed bodices and with jewelry that lines that neckline of yours. Either a low, sleek, messy, or even braided bun would suit this look. If your dress is slightly more open from the back, then approach a low or mid bun to highlight your beautiful back. For a dress that is off the shoulders, try to incorporate a half-up, half-down hairstyle with loose waves to elevate your facial features while also complementing your dress.
Straight slick hair would be gorgeous on a dress that is satin or silk that has a high slit to really outline your figure and give you that minimal but divine look.
Your makeup must help your look come together. If your dress is minimalist, then your makeup should be light and soft. However, the color is what will define what makeup look would suit you best. For white, pink, baby blue, lilac, yellow, light green dresses, light contour with pink blush and eyeshadow with neutral tones and shimmer would be ideal. Brows should be clean and defined to your shape, while your lips should be glossy and ready to give a kiss.
However, for darker colors like red, black, navy blue, or emerald dresses. Foundation should still be natural to your liking with a touch of blush and a whole lot of bronzer and contour to define that sharp jawline. The eyeshadow should be bold with gold and have a good amount of shimmer. I dare say that a smoky eyeshadow will catch fire on the dance floor. And with red matte lips, the look will come together.
Accessories are what make or break your look. Wear jewelry that is special or unique to you. Gold accessories add warmth and elegance to your skin, so black, red, emerald, or floral dresses are perfect. On the other hand, silver gives off
a cool and edgy look to blue, purple, grey, pastel, or metallic dresses. But ladies, first take into consideration what style you want to go for and truly choose what accessories suit your style best. Ladies, please feel free to be creative with your look now that you might have a ‘foundation’ on where to start. I can not wait to see how beautiful each one of you will look.
For the gentlemen, your suit defines your character and how you present yourself to the ladies of the night. Choose between a bow, tie, or undershirt; the color has to match the color of your date’s dress. However, if you’re going solo, then a black bow or tie would be the best option. Tuck in that shit and wear a belt to make sure those pants fit just right. Polish those shoes so well that you can see your reflection.
DO NOT get a haircut on the day of prom. Get the haircut the day or days before prom so it can still look fresh. If you have longer hair, then do a slick back to really present your facial definition, and it is timeless to style. Practice makes perfect, so test out what hairstyle suits you the best before prom.
Make sure to get there on time for pictures to capture this day. Although it might not seem like a big deal, one day we will want to go back to high school memories that were actually fun and important to us.
