On February 28th, Singley held its 7th annual International Night, an event organized by the Asian Cultural Committee and sponsored by Mr. Lee. According to Mr. Lee, International Night began when “a group of students approached me to start an Asian Cultural Committee to highlight Asian countries and their cultures.” International night was made to, again, highlight Asian cultures but also represent other cultures around the world, reflecting the diversity within the Singley community.
International Night featured a variety of cultural displays. There were many informational posters, people were able to try foods from different countries, and some even enjoyed face painting.
Many people representing their countries were asked about their favorite part of sharing their culture, and their answers reflected a deep sense of pride and excitement.
Kylie Sendaydiego, representing the Philippines, shared, “My favorite part is sharing the food we have to offer because not a lot of people have tried it; and I think it’s really good!”
Arely Orta, representing Mexico, said that she enjoys sharing “The amazing hospitality we have; the love and care we give to strangers. We’re always willing to help, whether it’s with a meal or anything else.”
People who attended also expressed their appreciation for the event.
Carlos Coreas, who performed at International Night, said he enjoyed exploring the different displays and learning about new cultures. He said, “You see cultures you never thought you would see before.”
Leya Shibo added, “There are so many different cultures at Singley, and I wanted to explore and learn more about the backgrounds of my peers.”
Joshna Santhosh, who has attended International Night four times, said that each year has been an even more incredible experience.

In addition to the cultural exhibits, the night featured a fashion walk showcasing traditional clothing and performances such as dancing and singing.
When asked what he looked forward to in the coming years regarding International Night, Mr. Lee said, “I look forward to working with students every year. It can get stressful, but they put everything together, and it turns out great. They have fun, and that’s what matters.”
From the amazing performances to the delicious food and creative displays, International Night was described as a fun and memorable way to bring the community together and celebrate different cultures, and will continue to do so in the future!
