We’re Back!
First off, thank you for supporting The Phoenix Post! Your feedback means everything, and we truly value your opinions. This issue is packed — we’re heading into the busiest part of the school year. Inside, you’ll find coverage of International Night, the Valentine’s Carnival, the Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser, four new student spotlights, and one special teacher spotlight.
As the winter winds down, let’s not be cold to each other. According to the National Library of Medicine, the people you surround yourself with during early adulthood can shape your future — even influencing your long-term habits and decision-making. That old saying, “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future,” sticks around for a reason.
Take a look at your inner circle. Do the people around you reflect who you are or who you want to become? If not, it’s okay to step back. I know it’s not always easy — but learning to enjoy your own company can make it easier to create space from relationships that aren’t helping you grow.
Here’s a challenge: next time you walk into class, sit with someone new. Choose people who bring out your best qualities. Being kind, respectful, and supportive should never go out of style. Watch how your peers treat others — especially teachers, adults, and classmates. It says more than you might think.
And if someone gossips to you about others, remember they’re likely doing the same behind your back. Choose people who uplift, not tear down. Positive friends can make even the toughest days feel lighter — and you should strive to be that kind of friend too.
A good rule of thumb: don’t expect anything from others that you aren’t already offering yourself. Want loyalty? Be loyal. Want respect? Show it. You get what you give. That said, relationships should never be one-sided. A strong friendship brings joy, comfort, and mutual support — and those connections will help you feel more confident in social settings and unfamiliar environments.
So if you take anything from this letter, let it be this: be a better friend. Invest time and effort into the people you care about. Good friendships don’t just happen — they’re built.
On a lighter note, there’s a lot to look forward to in these last few months! Prom, Grad Night, and EXPO are just around the corner — tickets are on sale during all lunches, so don’t miss out!
As always, we want to hear from you. Drop us a comment — they’re anonymous, and your input helps shape future issues of The Phoenix Post. Thanks for reading!
