Juniors, are you curious about who’s leading your class? Well, here’s all you need to know about your Junior Class President Vanessa Alvarado.
Vanessa Alvarado is a student here at Jack E. Singley Academy, currently occupying the position of Junior Class President. She manages to run this position efficiently all the while balancing schoolwork, a job, and personal life. When asked about the challenges of this officer role, she said the biggest challenge is trying to balance everything without letting it affect her schedule outside of school.
Her advice for upcoming juniors was to worry about their grades. She says, “It gets harder your junior year. That’s really true. So always try to prioritize that”. So regardless of a busy schedule, she emphasizes the importance of staying on top of school work because it does matter and it only gets harder as the academic year goes on.
Out of all the qualities that Singley establishes in students, she believes that the main one is success. She believes that the school pushes resources and a mindset that sets up its students to be successful in the real world. As for the motivation for that success, everybody has a different driving factor. Her main driving factors include graduating and travel. After she graduates, Vanessa has plans to explore the world around her. “I want to go to Oregon so bad. I want to travel so badly”.
But before graduation, she still has her senior year to complete and hopefully, a position to fill. In terms of senior class president, it is something she is interested in. “I would love to pursue it cause I would already know how to handle it, I would know what to do”. In her experience, she believes the most important part of this job is listening to the students. Vanessa said, “Listening to the students is really important to me because I do care about what they think and what they want”.
Speaking of her peers, it is clear that those around her have made an impact on her life. She says the lesson that stuck with her was the quote “Es mejor sola que mal acompañada”. For those not familiar, it translates to “It’s better to be alone than in bad company”. This saying stresses the importance of having those close to you be good influences who can guide you on the right path in all that you do. So for those who don’t find their connections in high school, don’t rush to befriend just anybody. Choose your friends wisely, for it makes all the difference.
