Welcome to the inaugural issue of The Phoenix Post! We would like to start by thanking all of you for your support of Singley’s very first official newspaper and we are excited for all of you to finally get to read what we have been working on this past semester. It’s been a journey and we are just getting started.
As this is the editors’ first letter, we have a lot to catch up on. Starting off strong, the class of 2025 is officially entering the last semester of our senior year! Can you believe it? It’s going to be a very exciting few months ahead as we countdown to the finish line so be sure to lock in with your new year academic comeback. Also, just a reminder: Seniors, it’s the perfect time to wrap up those volunteer hours by signing up to help out around the school or sign up for events like the Spirit Crew’s Valentine’s Day Carnival on February 14th or the Asian Cultural Committee’s International Night on February 28. Both events are great for earning volunteer hours and having fun while you’re at it.
Speaking of fun, we have interviewed your favorites from all grade levels at Singley so look under the spotlight section to view our articles on the most involved students in your grade. (The ones that make us all look bad in the best possible way). Also in our Spotlight section, we sat down with our new principal, Mrs. Johnson to answer some of your most burning questions, address rumors and give you the scoop on upcoming policy changes. You don’t want to miss that!
Let’s talk about something we are all feeling: CHANGE. It can be uncomfortable as our normality is disrupted by an influx of new teachers, administrators, policies and even a new principal. While new faces don’t faze us, the departure of so many familiar faces certainly does.
As hard as it may be, change is often the only way to grow. So while things may be different or feel uncomfortable, change is good if it comes with the intention of improvement. I’ve learned as a senior that everything and even everyone we started with freshman year are gone or changed. Every single one of you is different compared to your freshman self. If we are changing and growing as individuals we have to afford our school the same grace to evolve.
And on that note—let’s talk TikTok. Or rather, let’s talk about how TikTok might soon be a thing of the past. With the ban looming, this is the perfect chance to detox from our phones and rediscover the world outside the screen. While Ash Trevino is packing her things getting ready to move out of our lives, let phone addiction move on as well. We’ll probably spend the first few weeks in denial, but by the time we reach acceptance, we’ll either find ourselves more social and emotionally available—or end up with a crippling reels addiction. My money’s on the latter.
Finally, let’s wrap up with a little about how The Phoenix Post came to be. My co-editor, Bianca and I came up with the idea to begin an official online school newspaper after being inspired by Mrs. Kern’s journalism class. While collaborating with our peers for projects within the class, we pulled in some amazing classmates and now have a team of five great officers. We are currently looking for more talent. If any of you are interested in joining us as a writer, comic, or artist feel free to fill out the interest form linked below!
We know there’s always room for improvement, so we’ve added a suggestions section where you can drop us your honest feedback. We value your creativity and talent so whether you love it, hate it, or have a brilliant idea for the next issue, we want to hear from you.
So this is our first issue! We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it. We’ll be releasing new issues bi-monthly, so follow us on Instagram @jesaphoenixpost to stay in the loop.
Thank you to Mr. Lee for designing our logo!
